Daysi Ivette Torres Bosques

Daysi Ivette Torres Bosques (born March 11, 1956 ) is a Nicaraguan politician and mayor of Managua .

Life

She attended the Escuela Modesto Barrios elementary school and graduated from the Instituto Maestro Gabriel . In 1984 she graduated from the Universidad Centroamericana with a degree in journalism as a Licenciada . In 1986 she worked as an editor for the radio program Puño en Alto of Radio Nicaragua and in the press department of the FSLN government and in 1993 for the radio news program Primera Hora of Radio Rica and the Revista Municipios of the Instituto Nicaragüense de Fomento Municipal (INIFOM). In 1996 she worked as a journalist for the news magazine Noticiero Acción from Canal 4 and in 1997 for Extravisión . Torres spent six months at the television magazine Televisión Visión Policial , then in the political department of Multinoticias .

At INCAE (Harvard School of Business in Nicaragua) she completed a postgraduate course in economics and photography and studied political argumentation in Cuba and computer science at the Instituto Nacional Tecnológico (INATEC). In 2000, she took part in seminars on health, library and radio.

In the 2008 local election campaign of Alexis Argüello , Daysi Torres was announced as deputy mayor. After the Supreme Electoral Council identified Argüello as elected mayor, Daysi Torres became his deputy.

Daysi Torres is married to Danilo Mendieta and has five children.

Deputy Mayor

In December 2002, Judge Vida Benavente, 38 producers and users of the Nemagon worm poison , including Dow Chemical , Shell Oil Company and Standard Fruit Company , ordered $ 489 million to pay approximately 500 banana workers harmed by Nemagon. Nemagon also acts on people's endocrine systems, making them die in agony. On January 13, 2006, Vida Benavente, a judge in Managua, identified Shell-Nicaragua as the legal successor to Shell Chemical and ordered the seizure of Shell-Nicaragua in order to secure the payment of compensation from Shell to the victims of Nemagon.

At a press conference on June 28, 2009, Daysi Torres received 100 empty oil drums, labeled with the word BASURERO , from the General Manager of Shell Nicaragua, Mauricio Aranda , as rubbish bins for the municipal administration of Managua. This contribution by Shell-Nicaragua to health care in Managua was recognized in a newspaper article.

Mayoress

Argüello committed suicide on July 1, 2009 and Daysi Torres was sworn in as mayor on July 7, 2009. Like her deputy Reina Rueda Alvarado, she is a member of the FSLN .
