Deán Funes is the capital of the Ischilín department in central Argentina , located approx. 118 km northwest of the provincial capital of Cordoba in the province of the same name . It has 21,211 inhabitants ( INDEC from 2010). Deán Funes can be reached via Ruta Nacional 60.

Deán Funes was founded as Villa de Deán Funes on March 9, 1875. Like many other cities in Argentina, this place was created in connection with the railroad construction in the country. The place was named after the writer and dean of the Archdiocese of Córdoba, Gregorio Funes. Deán Funes has had city rights since October 29, 1929. The following nations are most represented in the city: Spaniards , Italians , Arabs , Yugoslavs . A festival is held there every year in the first half of January.
