The DeAtley Island is a large and icy island off the English coast of Palmer Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is 16 km east of Spaatz Island on the south side of the Ronne Entrance at the south-western end of George VI Sound .
It was sighted and roughly mapped by participants in the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948), whose leader, the American polar explorer Finn Ronne , later named it after Colonel Ellsworth F. DeAtley (1905–2000) of the United States Navy and his Ms. Thelma (* 1905) named who had provided the expedition with clothing and provisions.
