The De Mond Nature Reserve ( German nature reserve De Mond ) is located 26 kilometers from Bredasdorp , Overberg District , Western Cape Province in South Africa on the Indian Ocean . A wetland at the mouth of the Heuningnes River between the towns of Arniston and Struisbaai has been protected since 1986 and covers an area of 918 hectares.

The breeding area of the rare Damara tern ( Sterna balaenarum ) is to be particularly protected . The nature reserve is still rarely visited and does not have its own infrastructure.
