Nedda Casei

Nedda Casei (born September 9, 1932 in Baltimore , † January 20, 2020 in New York City ) was an American opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

She first studied singing with William P. Herman, Vittorio Piccinini and Loretta Corelli as well as at the Mozarteum in Salzburg . She made her operatic debut in 1960 at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels . In the same year she also sang for the first time at La Scala in Milan .

Casei worked for 21 years at the Metropolitan Opera , but also in Europe and was best known for her interpretations of Mozart's works.

Awards

Nedda Casei has received numerous awards during her career, including:

  • New York State Study Grant (1979, 1980, 1981)
  • Outstanding Young Singers Award, (1959)
  • Martha Baird Rockefeller Foundation Award (1962-64)
  • Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans (1975-1976)
  • Woman of Achievement Award (1969).
