De Ponte (noble family)
De Ponte , also from the bridge or from the bridges , is the name of a medieval noble and ministerial family from Trier / Mosel , which originally came from Merzig / Saar . The seat was in the Barbarathermen near the Roman bridge in Trier.
Well-known representatives are:
- Ritter Friedrich, nephew of Rudolf von Merzig , owned numerous rights and lands in the Trier area
- Rudolf the Elder, Canon, Archdeacon and Provost of Liège and Trier
- Rudolf the Younger, Canon, Archdeacon of Trier, Provost of St. Paulin , brother of the Knight Friedrich. Rudolf the Younger tried in vain to assert himself against Arnold von Wied in determining the successor to Archbishop Theoderich von Wied .

- Richard, Abbot of St. Martin in Trier
- Friedrich de Ponte, Canon of St. Paulin and Pastor of Ligny
The castle Sommerau on the Ruwer near Trier was built by the family "of the bridge" in the 13th century.
