Dead Moon was an American rock band from Portland , Oregon .

history

The band, founded in 1987, played a mix of garage rock , punk and country . The singer and songwriter Fred Cole , who heads the band, has played in various groups since he was thirteen. At a concert with The Weeds in the late 1960s he met Kathleen "Toody" Conner, who was to become his wife and who plays bass with Dead Moon . A friend of the two, Andrew Loomis, joined them as drummer.

After initially only playing in front of a handful of people, the trio had their breakthrough with their third album in 1990 and it was booked for a tour in Europe. The German label Music Maniac signed her and released a compilation of songs from the first three albums under the title Dead Moon Night . A year later the band released Live Evil . The concert recorded at the LKA Longhorn in Stuttgart was their first album, which was released on CD and record . In total, the group released 15 albums. In Europe they were under contract with Music Maniac , in the USA the records were released by Tombstone Records .

In 1996 Dead Moon appeared in the documentary Hype! , which featured the Seattle music scene earlier in the decade. In 2004, Unknown Passage: The Dead Moon Story , a documentary about the group, was released.

Dead Moon broke up at the end of 2006 after almost 20 years - presumably because of the drummer's severe alcoholic illness. Andrew Loomis was also ill with cancer and suffered several strokes after successful cancer therapy. He died on March 8, 2016.

The Cole couple then appeared with Kelly Halliburton (PROBLEMS, Defiance) as the new drummer under the name Pierced Arrows . Fred Cole died on November 9, 2017 at the age of 69 from complications from cancer.
