Dean Dwight Gordon (born February 1, 1973 in Croydon , London ) is a former English football player . Mostly used as a left-back, Gordon played for professional teams in England, Cyprus and New Zealand over the course of his career.

Career

Professional in England

Gordon played in Crystal Palace's youth and received his first professional contract in 1991. In his first season he made five appearances in the first team, was elected Young Player of the Year within the club and was promoted to the Premier League . Crystal Palace was a typical elevator crew as a result. The first division promotions in 1992, 1994 and 1997 are compared to three relegations in 1993, 1995 and 1998. While Gordon remained loyal to the club in the relegations in 1993 and 1995, he moved after relegation from 1998 for £ 900,000 transfer fee to the first division club Middlesbrough FC .

In his first season at Middlesbrough, Gordon was an integral part of the team and only missed one league game. After a serious knee injury, he couldn't make it to the regular team. In November 2001 he was loaned to Cardiff City for some time and moved to the second division club Coventry City at the end of the season . In March 2004 he was loaned to Reading FC as a substitute for Nicky Shorey until the end of the season.

Wandering years

After an unsuccessful trial at the Scottish club Hibernian Edinburgh , Gordon moved to the fourth division Grimsby Town in August 2004 , before he left England in March 2005 and moved to the Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia for a few months .

In October 2005 he returned to England and joined the amateur club Crook Town . He played there until early 2006 when he signed a one-month contract with Blackpool FC , which was not renewed in February. By the end of the 2006 season, Gordon was still used by amateur clubs FC Lewes , Crook Town and Worksop Town .

In June 2006, Gordon joined the New Zealand club Albany United , but soon moved to the New Zealand champions Auckland City . After just five games for Auckland and shortly before the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup , Gordon signed a professional contract with New Zealand's A-League club New Zealand Knights .

Gordon completed six missions for the Knights by the end of the season and returned to England after the team was disbanded. There he continued his career first with the amateur team Lewes, only to switch to the relegation-threatened fourth division club Torquay United a short time later . Gordon came to eight appearances for Torquay, but could not prevent relegation to the amateur camp and was released at the end of the season. In late 2007, Gordon completed seven games for Whitby Town in the Northern Premier League , from summer 2008 he played for their league rival Ilkeston Town . After a short loan period at FC Glapwell at the turn of 2008/09, he moved to AFC Workington in March 2009 , where he made himself available week after week as a “stand-by footballer”.

Selection teams

Between 1994 and 1995 Gordon came to a total of 13 appearances in the English U-21 selection . In 1994 he won the Toulon tournament with the team .
