Dean Heffernan (born May 19, 1980 in Sydney ) is a former Australian football player .

About the Wollongong Wolves and Sydney United he moved to the Central Coast Mariners with the establishment of the Australian A-League . In the 2005/06 season he was a regular player and scored eight goals as a left defender.

From the Mariners, who were runner-up this season, he and his defensive colleague Michael Beauchamp were loaned to 1. FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga for a year , but did not appear there. For the 2007/08 season he is therefore returning to the Mariners , with whom he signed a contract until 2010. In the season he reached the A-League final again with the Central Coast, but lost again 0-1, but this time against the Newcastle United Jets . In January 2010 he moved to the Melbourne Heart , but went on loan to the English third division club Huddersfield Town , which he returned to Europe. With the move, he hoped to gain the chances of being nominated for the 2010 World Cup. From 2010 Heffernan played almost exclusively in Australia, where he ended his playing career in 2016.
