The song was written by Dave Davies in his home in Fortis Green in the Borough of Haringey, London . On the recordings all members participated by The Kinks, produced it was by Ray Davies. A solo album was announced for September 1967 and a solo tour for the winter of 1967/1968, but after the following singles failed commercially, Davies limited himself to the playback of the song in various television programs, including in August 1968 at Top of the Pops .

On the September 1967 released album by The Kinks entitled Something Else by The Kinks , the song was included in a three minute four second version. The album reached number 35 on the UK album charts. In order to take advantage of the commercial success of the current tour for the album, Pye Records released the EP Dave Davies Hits in late 1967 , which, however, proved to be a failure.
