Deborah Drattell
Deborah Drattell (* 1956 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American composer .
After completing her training, Drattell was composer in residence for the Denver Symphony Orchestra under Philippe Entremont for several years . During this time u. a. Sorrow is not Melancholy for string orchestra, the orchestral suite Lilith , which was premiered by the New York Philharmonic , the clarinet concerto Fire Dances for David Shifrin and the flute concerto The Fire Within for Ransom Wilson .
From 1998 to 2001 Drattell was Composer in Residence at Glimmerglass Opera . This is where u. a. the opera Lilith , which had its stage premiere in 2001 after a concert performance at the New York City Opera in 2001, and the one-act opera The Festival of Regrets (WP 1999). In 2003 Nicholas and Alexandra with Plácido Domingo in the role of Rasputin was premiered at the Los Angeles Opera .
Drattell composed several works for the soprano Lauren Flanigan , such as Letters Home based on texts by Sylvia Plath , Eishes Chayil , the song cycle Love Gave It To Me based on Anna Achmatowa and Alone based on a poem by Edgar Allan Poe .
