Lauren Flanigan

Lauren Flanigan (born May 18, 1959 in San Francisco ) is an American opera singer (soprano).

Life

Flanigan made his Seattle Opera debut in 1991 as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni . She later sang the governess in Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw and Violetta in Verdi's La traviata at this house . In the 1992–93 season she appeared as a substitute for the sick Aprile Millo at the side of Luciano Pavarotti in Verdi's I Lombardi at the Metropolitan Opera . In 1996 she made her debut at La Scala in Milan as Abigail a Verdi's Nabucco .

Flanigan's repertoire also includes numerous roles from works by contemporary composers, such as Christine in Marvin David Levy's Mourning Becomes Electra (Lyric Opera of Chicago), the bride in Judith Wier's The Vanishing Bridegroom (Opera Theater of St. Louis) and the title role in the World premiere by Hugo Weisgalls Esther .

In total, she appeared in about a hundred different operas, including several world premieres. Philip Glass composed the vocal part of his 6th Symphony for her based on a text by Allen Ginsberg , and her recording of Richard Strauss ' Die Liebe der Danae was nominated for a Grammy . She has received the Betty Allen Prize of the New York City Opera , a prize from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) for her commitment to the performance of works by contemporary composers, and she was awarded an artist title by the Center for Contemporary Opera of the year .
