Deceased ... , often just Deceased ( English for “to die ”) is a metal band from Arlington , Virginia , USA .

history

The band was founded by King Fowley in Virginia in 1984 and began to publish underground demos in 1985 . The then bassist Rob Sterzel died in a car accident. The band members were heavily influenced by the early thrash metal bands, especially Voivod . In the underground scene, they often played with bands like Morbid Angel and Immolation . After the release of five demos , the band was the first band to ever get a record deal with the newly founded music label Relapse Records .

After a first EP called Gutwrecnch , the debut album Luck of the Corpse was released in 1992 . Less than a year later, the EP 13 Frightened Souls was released . In 1995 the second album Blueprints for Madness was released . In 1997, Fearless Undead Machines followed , which is considered by many to be their best album. Another album followed in 2000 with Supernatural Addiction . In 2001 the EP Behind the Mourner's Veil was released via Relapse . However, the band was not satisfied with the promotion and separated from the label after a band meeting.

Then began rather restless years in which the band released albums, EPs and compilations on several labels. A big blow was when founding member Mark Adams and the only remaining original member besides frontman King Fowley withdrew from the music scene and stopped playing from one day to the next.

However, the group could no longer build on the success of the old days. In 2016, three old albums that had not been re-pressed for many years were reissued by Transcending Obscurity.

Her last album, Ghostly White , was released in 2018 . On November 13, 2018, longtime drummer Dave Castillo drowned at the age of 43 while visiting his family in El Salvador. Before that, he had recorded the drum parts for the album. He was replaced by Amos Rifkin.

Some members of Deceased ... formed the heavy metal band October 31 .

Music genre

Deceased are considered to be the pioneers of Death Metal who helped shape the development of the style from Thrash Metal . The early style was therefore still very raw and largely shaped by the Canadian band Voivod. Later the style changed to a kind of Melodic Death Metal .
