Deschool in Bad Wimpfen

The mechanical shop in Bad Wimpfen in the Heilbronn district in Baden-Württemberg is one of the former property of the Wimpfen monastery . The building on the market square of the valley town (Lindenplatz 5) was once the seat of the dean . It stands today as a cultural monument under monument protection .

history

Located in an exposed location on the market square (Lindenplatz) within the monastery district near the collegiate church of St. Peter and equipped with a comparatively large plot of land, the property has probably always been the seat of the respective dean of the monastery. A courtyard door dates from 1603, the current building was built in 1763. It was initially inhabited by the client, Dean Mohr von Waldt. His successor Philipp Christoph von Hohenfeldt was only nominally dean in Wimpfen, but lived in Bruchsal, so that the Hesse-Darmstadt government councilor Stockhausen found the building empty when it took possession in December 1802 and set up his quarters in it. After the abolition of the monastery, the deanery came to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt in 1803 with the entire property of the monastery and in 1806 to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . The building was then the seat of the Hessian bailiff Dilg. Because of the high maintenance costs of the stately building, it was sold in 1824 with the property and outbuildings from the Grand Duchy to the community taker Weigand and thus privately owned. At times it then functioned as the Gasthaus zur Linde .

description

Heraldic cartouche on the portal

The dean is a two-story, seven-axis massive building with a mansard roof . The magnificent portal to Lindenplatz has a curved oval skylight with a coat of arms cartouche. The cartouche contains a depiction of Petrus as patron saint of the monastery and the coat of arms of Dean Mohr von Waldt, who was in office from 1757 to 1780 and on which the construction of the building, probably as a replacement or extension of an existing older building, goes back. The date 1763 is on both sides of the crest cartouche. The building also has profiled sandstone window frames, surrounding cornices and pilasters crowned by capitals .

At the rear of the Dechanei there are various outbuildings. Around 1807 there were ancillary buildings: a wash house, a pig and chicken coop, a horse stable, a chaise - shed , a stable and a wooden shed. The property, which is bounded at the back by the city wall of the valley town towards the Neckar, also included a kitchen garden, a grass garden and the courtyard . The current outbuildings essentially date from the 19th century.
