Dejan Lazić (* 1977 in Zagreb , Croatia ) is a Croatian pianist and composer.

Career

Dejan Lazić was born into a family of musicians, grew up in Salzburg and studied there at the Mozarteum . He interprets the classical piano repertoire and is with international orchestras such as the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra , the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra , the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra . Lazić has also toured in North and South America, Australia and Asia, where he has performed recitals in New York ( Lincoln Center ), Buenos Aires ( Teatro Colón ), Sydney Opera House, Tokyo (Suntory Hall) and forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. In the summer of 2008, he played in a televised gala concert at the Beijing Great Hall of People during the Olympics. In the summer of 2011 he made his debut at the BBC Proms in London. In addition to his solo career, Lazić is also a chamber musician .

On November 1, 2014, it became known that Lazić, with reference to a judgment of the European Court of Justice that was not legally relevant in the USA and misinterpreted by him, demanded that the Washington Post delete a negative concert review published in 2010. The newspaper rejected the intended interference with journalistic freedom of expression.

Recordings

He also records CDs, including 3 CDs entitled "Liaisons". His live recording of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Kirill Petrenko was awarded the ECHO Klassik 2009. In 2010 he released a recording of the Brahms Violin Concerto in his own arrangement for piano and orchestra. The work's world premiere took place in Atlanta, USA, with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Since then, Dejan Lazić has performed with this arrangement at the BBC Proms, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Hamburg Ostertönen, the Chopin Festival in Warsaw as well as in North and South America and Japan.

Compositions

Dejan Lazić's compositions include various works for piano, chamber and orchestral music as well as cadenzas for piano concertos by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. In the summer of 2014 he made his debut at the Aspen Music Festival in the USA, where he gave the world premiere of his piano concerto in the Istrian style, Op. 18 performed under the direction of Robert Spano.
