The Iris delavayi ( Iris delavayi ) is a plant of the genus Iris ( Iris ) within the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae).

features

The Delavay iris is a perennial plant that forms a rhizome nest and reaches heights of 90 to 150 centimeters. The stem is branched. The flowers are shorter than the stem. They are 7 to 9 centimeters in diameter. The hanging leaves are colored pale or dark red- purple . Its plate is round and has a large, white central point. The standards are directed obliquely upwards outwards.

The flowering time is in July.

Occurrence

The Delavay iris is found in south-west China in north Yunnan, south-west Sichuan and south-east Tibet. It grows on wet meadows and swamps at altitudes of 2,440 to 4,460 meters.

use

The Delavay iris is rarely used as an ornamental plant for natural gardens, pond edges and borders. It has been in culture since 1895 at the latest.
