history
Delaware City's history can be traced back to 1801 when the Newbold family of New Jersey bought a small piece of land. From 1840 to 1880 there was a real peach boom that made Delaware City famous for its peaches across the country. At that time there were around 110,000 peach trees around the city. At the same time, commercial fishing began and the production of sturgeon roe (caviar), which was exported to Germany and Russia. The hunt for muskrats provided the fur industry with raw materials. In 1870 Delaware City was connected to the railroad. Between 1950 and 1960 a new industrial area was built, which attracted further manufacturing companies.
