Between 1999 and 2003, the music duo released five studio albums and several singles. After leaving the band, Matache devoted herself to a career as a solo artist. So far she has released four studio albums, one live album and over thirty solo singles.

Early years

childhood and education

Matache was born on February 7, 1982 in Bucharest and grew up there. She is the youngest daughter of Gina Matache and Ion Matache. Matache has an older brother and an older sister. In the early 1990s she attended the Liceul de muzica Dinu Lipatti (Dinu Lipatti Music School) in her hometown Bucharest after secondary school, took piano lessons and private lessons to learn to play the flute for five years. Mihalache then continued her studies at the National Music University of Bucharest . After finishing her studies at the university, she had the desire to become a singer. She received support from her mother Gina in realizing her dream as a soloist for folk music.

Career

1999 to 2003: N&D

In 1999, when Matache was at the age of 17, she and her school friend Nicolae Marin formed a band called N&D . Both went to the same school and were just in eleventh grade. In the same year that Matache and Morin founded the duo, the first album was released under the title Altfel , which was very successful and was able to place in the Romanian album charts. The single Vino la mine included on the album reached the top of the top ten charts. In 2000 the second studio album Face ce vreau followed and in 2001 the third under the name Nu e vina mea . Both albums were also very successful and reached positions in the album charts.

In 2002 the fourth studio album Nu vreau să te pierd was released ; a year later followed the fifth and final album under the title Explosion . However, both albums could not build on the success of the first three. Towards the end of 2003, Matache and Marin decided to dissolve the group due to its dwindling and waning success. After the dissolution, both wanted to concentrate on a career as solo interpreter.

2003-2009: Parfum de fericire & Listen Up

After leaving N&D, Matache focused on her solo career. In the same year she announced that she would record her first solo studio album under the name Parfum de fericire . The album was released on July 18, 2003 and contains ten songs. Except for the song Make It Last , all Matache tracks are sung in Romanian. The song Parfum de fericire , after which the album is named, became a commercial success in Romania.

After a four-year musical break, Matache released her second album, Listen Up , on June 29, 2007 , which was also a great success in Romania and Moldova. The album includes a number of English and Romanian language songs. Matache first worked with other artists and producers, including the singers Matteo, Smiley , Connect-R , Marius Moga , Cristi Enache, Michael Pow and the band Hi-Q , Gabi Huiban, Miss J and Solo & Umberti Tomassiaks Costi. Together with the singer Matteo took the songs Listen Up and No, No, No to. The song Sufletul meu was created in collaboration with DJ Star. This and another song titled Secretul Mariei , which Matache recorded with Smiley, were used as the soundtrack for the telenovela Secretul Mariei of the same name .

In 2008 Matache took part in the dance show Dansez pentru tine . She and her dance partner Ionuț Pavăl competed against seven other couples in season 5. All couples danced for a charitable cause: 8-year-old Raul from Sibiu is missing his right arm; he urgently needs a prosthesis. However, the family cannot raise the financial means. The proceeds from the winning couple will benefit the von Raul family.

In September 2009 Matache performed at the famous Cerbul de Aur Festival in Brașov . She interpreted the song I Will Survive , which was sung by Gloria Gaynor , and received ten points for her performance.
