Aptiv (formerly Delphi Automotive ) is an automotive supplier based in Saint Helier and headquartered in Dublin . Aptiv is one of the world's leading suppliers to the automotive industry with locations all over the world.
The company's shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange and are included in the S&P 500 .
history
The Delphi Corporation was an American automotive supplier founded in 1998 . The group had separated from General Motors on May 28, 1999 and has since been traded on the New York Stock Exchange until delisting (ticker symbol DPH). The issue price was 17 dollars .
Since the Delphi Corporation was part of General Motors until May 28, 1999 and the new company was still owned by General Motors shareholders, each General Motors shareholder received one Delphi bonus share for two General Motors shares . At the same time, General Motors share price fell $ 8.50 on May 28, 1999.
One of the goals of the spin-off was to be able to pay Delphi employees differently than the higher-paid "General Motors Workers". So it was a kind of outsourcing , as can be seen in other companies.
In November 2003, Delphi took over Grundig Car InterMedia System GmbH on the European market .
Chapter 11
On October 8, 2005, the company applied for bankruptcy protection under the American Chapter 11 , comparable to the European and German protective shield proceedings . Only the US parts of Delphi were affected, not the offices outside the US.
According to a reorganization plan published on March 31, 2006, Delphi focused on its core business and separated from other areas. As a result, around 8,500 jobs were cut worldwide or passed on to interested companies. These measures should end the ongoing Chapter 11 proceedings in the first half of 2007.
This step was initially postponed to the first quarter of 2008 because of the subprime crisis affecting American credit banks. However, it was not until October 7, 2009 that a settlement was reached in the New York court to exit Chapter 11. A previously planned entry of the investor Platinum Equity in June 2009 was rejected by the creditors.
New owners
As part of the restructuring, parts of the company went back to the former parent company General Motors. The rest of the old, now much smaller, company traded as DPH Holdings Corporation . The core business of the automotive supplier Delphi was bought by a group of investors and on October 6, 2009, the new British company Delphi Automotive was founded .
Spin-off
On December 5, 2017, Delphi Automotive PLC spun off its Powertrain division with the areas of e-mobility, engine construction and software solutions in the engine sector under the name Delphi Technologies and renamed itself Aptiv PLC. Aptiv is now focusing on vehicle electronics, connectivity and autonomous driving.
In May 2018, Aptiv moved its main headquarters from Gillingham to Dublin .
Aptiv Services Germany GmbH
The German plants are operated by Aptiv Services Deutschland GmbH . This is based in the technology park in the south of Wuppertal - Elberfeld . The German headquarters of Aptiv Services Germany is also located there.
Aptiv Services Deutschland GmbH employs almost 2900 people, 700 of them in the Wuppertal headquarters. The share of the GmbH in the turnover of the entire company is almost 7.5% with 1.2 billion euros.
Test track for autonomous cars
Aptiv Services Germany (then Delphi Germany) received the approval to operate a test track for autonomous cars on public roads in Wuppertal from January 1, 2016 . The district government approved the route at the request of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city of Wuppertal. The tests are to begin with a converted Audi SQ 5 car, with an engineer still behind the wheel so that he can intervene at any time.
Most of the route runs on the four-lane state road 418 , which also passes the company's location. To the east it runs to the Lichtscheider Kreuz and from there to the north into Obere Lichtenplatzer Straße. Continue on Müngstener Straße to the west to the intersection with Oberbergische Straße, from there to the south on Landesstraße 418. This continues to the west and then follows the street Am Freudenberg to the south over Jägerhofstraße in a south-westerly direction. At Theishahner Kreuz, turn into Küllenhahner Strasse, shortly afterwards into Theishahner Strasse to the south. There the route goes in an easterly direction again on the state road 418 and ends at Delphi Germany.
