Montescudaio (wine region)
Red and white wines as well as a Vin Santo are produced under the name Montescudaio DOC in the wine-growing area of the same name in the province of Pisa ( Italian region Tuscany ). The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " (" Denominazione di origine controllata " - DOC) since 1976 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014. These wines, which grow below Volterra , are highly valued locally, but rarely found in international trade.
Cultivation
The following municipalities in the province of Pisa are approved for cultivation and vinification : Casale Marittimo , Castellina Marittima , Guardistallo , Montecatini Val di Cecina , Montescudaio , Riparbella and Santa Luce .

The grape variety mentioned must contain at least 85%. A maximum of 15% other analogue grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.

 - Montescudaio rosso : The wines must consist of at least 50% Sangiovese grapes. A maximum of 50% of other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
