Valdinievole
The name Valdinievole DOC refers to Italian red and white wines and Vin Santo from the province of Pistoia , Tuscany . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1976 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014. The name Valdinievole or Val di Nievole (German: Valley of the Nievole ) comes from the river Nievole , in whose catchment area the vineyards are located.
Cultivation
Cultivation and vinification of these wines are only permitted in the following municipalities in the Province of Pistoia : Buggiano , Chiesina Uzzanese , Lamporecchio , Larciano , Marliana , Massa e Cozzile , Monsummano Terme , Montecatini Terme , Pescia , Pieve a Nievole , Ponte Buggianese and Uzzano .

The denomination prescribes the following grape varieties for the most important types :
- Valdinievole Bianco or Valdinievole Bianco “Superiore” : Must contain at least 70% Trebbiano Toscano . A maximum of 30% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - individually or together.
- Valdinievole Rosso and Valdinievole Rosso "Superiore" : at least 35% Sangiovese and at least 20% Canaiolo nero must be included. Together they must be at least 70%. In addition, a maximum of 30% red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be included in the mixture.
- Valdinievole Sangiovese : Must contain at least 85% Sangiovese. A maximum of 15% other grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
- Valdinievole Vin Santo (also called "Riserva"): Must contain at least 70% Trebbiano Toscano and / or Malvasia bianca ( Malvasia Bianca di Candia , Malvasia Bianca Lunga , Malvasia Istriana ) - individually or together. A maximum of 30% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
