Bianco dell'Empolese is the name of a white wine and a Vin Santo that are produced in the area around the Italian municipality of Empoli ( metropolitan city of Florence ). The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1989 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

The denomination for this wine prescribes the following grape varieties:

  • for Bianco dell'Empolese : at least 60% Trebbiano Toscano and a maximum of 40% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - individually or together,
  • for Bianco dell'Empolese Vin Santo : at least 60% Trebbiano Toscano and a maximum of 40% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - individually or together. The Moscato Bianco grape variety may not be used. The wine must mature in small barrels for at least three years.

Cultivation

Growing and vinification of the wines are only permitted in the municipalities of Empoli , Cerreto Guidi , Fucecchio , Vinci , Capraia e Limite and Montelupo Fiorentino in the province of Florence.
