The name San Torpè DOC refers to Italian rosé and white wines from an area in the provinces of Pisa and Livorno , Tuscany . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1980 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

San Torpè is a very small wine-growing area. Cultivation and vinification of these wines are only possible in the municipalities of Casciana Terme , Capannoli , Chianni , Crespina , Lari , Palaia , Ponsacco and Terricciola and in part of the administrative area of ​​the following municipalities: Cascina Fauglia , Lajatico , Lorenzana , Montopoli in Val d'Arno , Peccioli , Pontedera , Santa Luce and San Miniato in the province of Pisa and the municipality of Collesalvetti in the province of Livorno . The denomination prescribes the following grape varieties for the various types of wine :

  • San Torpè Bianco : At least 50% Trebbiano Toscano . A maximum of 50% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
  • San Torpè Rosato : At least 50% Sangiovese . 50% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - except for Aleatico . A maximum of 20% white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be included.
  • San Torpè Vin Santo (also called “ Riserva ”): 100% made from Trebbiano toscano and / or Malvasia Bianca Lunga - individually or together.

The San Torpè Vin Santo can carry the title “Riserva” if it has matured for at least three years.
