Moscadello di Montalcino DOC

Under the name Moscadello di Montalcino , lovely white wines are produced in the Italian municipality of Montalcino in the province of Siena ( Tuscany ). Since 1984 they have had the status of a “controlled designation of originDenominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short), which was last updated on March 7, 2014. The Brunello di Montalcino , a DOCG wine, as well as the Rosso di Montalcino DOC and the Sant'Antimo DOC , which is named after the nearby Sant'Antimo abbey , also come from the same growing area .

The following grape varieties may be used for production:

  • 85–100% Moscato Bianco (yellow muscatel)
  • 0-15% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region

Cultivation

The wines may only be produced in the municipality of Montalcino , Province of Siena in Tuscany. The maximum yield for Tranquillo and Frizzante must not exceed 100 quintals per hectare. For the Vendemmia Tardiva (late harvest) the maximum yield is only 50 quintals per hectare. It is made from dried grapes that have undergone additional drying.

  • Perlage: fine and lively
