Candia dei Colli Apuani

Candia dei Colli Apuani is the name of a wine-growing area in the northwest of the Tuscany region in Italy . At the foot of the Apuan Alps , white , red , rosé , sparkling and sweet wines are produced in the province of Massa-Carrara . The wines have had the status of a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since January 27, 1981 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The area lies within the municipalities of Carrara , Massa and Montignoso in the province of Massa-Carrara.

The DOC appellation allows the following types of wine to be made from the grape varieties listed :

  • Candia dei Colli Apuani Bianco , also called “frizzante” sparkling wine (blended wine, white, dry and sweet): 70–100% Vermentino bianco and 0–30% other white grape varieties that are permitted for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani Vin Santo (sweet wine): 70–100% Vermentino bianco and 0–30% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani bianco Vendemmia tardiva (blended wine - white late harvest): 70–100% Vermentino bianco and 0–30% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani Vermentino bianco : 85–100% Vermentino bianco and 0–15% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani rosso (red blended wine): 60–80% Sangiovese and 0–20% Merlot and 0–20% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani rosato (blended wine rosé): 60–80% Sangiovese and 0–20% Merlot and 0–20% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani Vermentino nero : 85–100% Vermentino nero and 0–15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani rosato Vermentino nero : 85–100% Vermentino nero and 0–15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
  • Candia dei Colli Apuani Barsaglina or Massaretta : 85–100% Barsaglina and 0–15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in Tuscany.
