Val d'Arno di Sopra
Val d'Arno di Sopra DOC or Valdarno di Sopra DOC are Italian white , rosé and red wines as well as sparkling wines from the province of Arezzo ( Tuscany region ). The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 2011 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.
Cultivation
Cultivation and vinification of these wines are only permitted in the municipalities of Cavriglia , Montevarchi , Bucine , Pergine Valdarno , Civitella in Val di Chiana , Castelfranco Piandiscò , Terranuova Bracciolini , Loro Ciuffenna , San Giovanni Valdarno , in the province of Arezzo (Tuscany region).
There are two sub-zones ("sottozone"): Pietraviva and Pratomagno :
- The Pietraviva subzone is located in the municipalities: Cavriglia , Montevarchi , Bucine , San Giovanni Valdarno , Pergine Valdarno and Civitella in Val di Chiana .
- The Pratomagno subzone is located in the municipalities: Castelfranco Piandiscò , Terranuova Bracciolini , Loro Ciuffenna , Castiglion Fibocchi and Laterina .

The denomination prescribes the following grape varieties for the various types of wine :
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Bianco and Val d'Arno di Sopra Bianco Spumante : 40–80% Chardonnay , 0–30% Malvasia Bianca Lunga and 0–20% Trebbiano Toscano . A maximum of 30% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Rosso , Val d'Arno di Sopra Rosato and Val d'Arno di Sopra Rosato Spumante : 40-80% Merlot , 0-35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 0-35% Syrah . A maximum of 30% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Sangiovese : At least 85% Sangiovese. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - except for Aleatico .
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Passito : 40–80% Malvasia Bianca Lunga and 0–30% Chardonnay . A maximum of 30% other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
- The following wines must contain at least 85% of the grape variety mentioned. A maximum of 15% other analogue grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Chardonnay
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Sauvignon
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Cabernet Sauvignon
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Cabernet Franc
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Merlot
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Sangiovese
- Val d'Arno di Sopra Syrah
The Val d'Arno di Sopra Rosso can carry the title "Riserva" if it has matured for at least 24 months and at least six months of that in wooden barrels.
