Pergine Valdarno is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the municipality Laterina Pergine Valdarno in the province of Arezzo in the Tuscany region in Italy .

The former municipality extended over around 47  km² . Pergine Valdarno is located about 15 km west of the provincial capital Arezzo and 50 km southeast of the regional capital Florence in the Arno valley (Valdarno) in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone E 2 188 GR / G.

The districts include Montalto (251 m, approx. 950 inhabitants), Pieve a Presciano (323 m, approx. 300 inhabitants), Poggio Bagnoli (304 m, approx. 100 inhabitants) and Cavi-Casalone (as part of Ponticino, the also belongs to Laterina, 262 m, approx. 500 inhabitants).

history

The place with castle and church (San Michele) is mentioned for the first time in writing in August 1056. After that, the place came under the influence of the Abbazia di Santa Maria di Agnano abbey (also called Badia Agnano , about 6 km southwest, today municipality of Bucine), what was confirmed on January 13, 1154 by Pope Anastasius IV . In the second half of the 14th century, the communities in the area of ​​the Signoria in Florence, including Pergine Valdarno.

On January 1, 2018, the place merged with the neighboring municipality of Laterina to form the new municipality of Laterina Pergine Valdarno. In the referendum on October 29 and 30, 2017, 50.60% (60.49% turnout) voted in Pergine Valdarno for the union. The law merging the two municipalities is Legge Regionale n.55 of December 5th, 2017. The town hall is in Laterina.
