Terre di Casole

The name Terre di Casole DOC refers to Italian red and white wines from Casole d'Elsa in the province of Siena ( Tuscany ). The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " (Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC ) since 2007 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

Cultivation and vinification of these wines are only permitted in the municipality of Casole d'Elsa in the province of Siena (Tuscany region).

The denomination prescribes the following grape varieties for the various types of wine :

  • Terre di Casole Rosso , Terre di Casole Rosso “Riserva” : At least 60–80% Sangiovese. 20–40% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - with the exception of Aleatico .
  • Terre di Casole Bianco : At least 50% Chardonnay . A maximum of 50% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - except for Moscato Bianco .
  • Terre di Casole Sangiovese : At least 85% Sangiovese. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - except for Aleatico .
  • Terre di Casole Passito : At least 50% Chardonnay . A maximum of 50% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added - except for Moscato Bianco .

The Terre di Casole Bianco can carry the title "Riserva" if it has matured for at least five months in wooden barrels and at least three months in the bottle. The wines Terre di Casole Sangiovese "Riserva" and Terre di Casole Rosso "Superiore" have to mature for at least 12 months in wooden barrels and six months in bottle.
