Gevingåsen tunnel is a rail tunnel in Norway . It is located on the Nordlandsbane between Hommelvik and Hell in Trøndelag Province . The tunnel is 4,400 meters long.

history

After construction began in spring 2009, the tunnel was completed on August 15, 2011 and officially opened on August 23, 2011. The construction of the tunnel reduced the travel time between Værnes and Trondheim by four to five minutes. The capacity on the line between Hommelvik and Hell has been increased from 5.4 to 8 trains per hour. The new building shortened the distance between Hommelvik and Hell by 1,627 meters. Another positive consequence of the tunnel is that part of the route, which is prone to landslides, has been closed.

The breakthrough took place on August 12, 2010, and the first train passed through the tunnel on August 15, 2011 at 6 a.m.

The old line between Hommelvik and Muruvik to the north was demolished, while the line from Muruvik to Hell and to Muruvika harbor was retained as a siding.

Technical specifications

The tunnel is 4,400 meters long. With the single-track tunnel section and the connections to the old route, a 5,700 meter long new line was created.

The new tunnel is prepared for a possible electrification of the route between Trondheim and Steinkjer and between Trondheim and Storlien . It is also prepared so that a parallel tube can be added. For this purpose, the area outside the tunnel is available for the possible construction of another track.

Avinor used 400,000 cubic meters of overburden to expand Trondheim Airport . The tunnel crosses 17 meters below the light Tunnelen the Europe Straße 6 . There is a common escape route between the two tunnels, and there are two other escape tunnels in Muruvik.
