The white wine variety Malvasia Istriana is one of many varieties from the Malvasia family in Italy, Croatia and Portugal. The variety is very old and probably of Greek origin.
The cultivation of the variety is recommended in the provinces of Belluno and Venice of the Veneto region and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region . It is also approved in the provinces of Padua , Treviso , Verona , Vicenza and Sardinia . In addition, it is one of the most commonly grown varieties on the Istrian peninsula ( Slovenia , Croatia ).
The late-ripening variety is of moderate growth and delivers good yields. She is susceptible to powdery mildew. The must makes alcohol-rich white wines with a nice aroma . The wines are included in the DOC wines Carso , Colli Orientali del Friuli , Collio Goriziano , Friuli-Annia , Friuli Aquileia , Friuli Isonzo and Friuli Latisana
The planted area in Italy is approx. 990 hectares .
