δ Canis Majoris ( Delta Canis Majoris , δ CMa for short ) is a star with an apparent magnitude of 1.8 mag in the constellation of the Big Dog . The star bears the historical proper name Wezen / Alwazn / Wesen / Al Wazor ; this is from the Arabicالوزن al-wazn derived from "the weight".
δ Canis Majoris is a yellow giant of the spectral class F8 and has a surface temperature of 6200 Kelvin. It shines 50,000 times more than the sun and has about 200 times the solar radius. The star is about 1,600 light years from the solar system.
The IAU Working Group on Star Names (WGSN) has the historical proper names on July 20, 2016 Wezen defined as standardized proper name for this star.
