Delta Velorum (Bayer name, δ Vel for short) is a star system in the constellation Sails of the Ship . It is about 80 light years from Earth. The system consists of two double stars . The brightest of the four stars, Delta Velorum A , is a white main sequence star with a magnitude of +2  mag . Its companion Delta Velorum B , has a brightness of approx. 5 mag and is 2.6 arc seconds away from component A. The second double system is 69 arc seconds away. It consists of the star 11th magnitude Delta Velorum C and the star 13th magnitude Delta Velorum D, which are separated by 6 arc seconds.

On September 5, 2017, the IAU gave the name Alsephina, which is visible to the naked eye .
