Loyalty to the state of Tyrol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Die Treue dem Land Tirol is a march composed by Florian Pedarnig in alla breve rhythm and texted by Sepp Pedarnig . Originating in the mid-1950s, from 1985, after Pedarnig had published it, it became increasingly popular beyond Tyrol . It is now part of the repertoire of numerous brass bands and has also been recorded by representatives of folk music ( Alpentrio Tirol , Marc Pircher , Die Grubertaler and others).

Due to its widespread use, the march is sometimes referred to as the “secret Tyrolean national anthem ”.

In the second stanza of the lyrics, reference is made to the separation of South Tyrol from Austria in 1919:

A hard fight broke you in two
, South Tyrol was torn from you .
The Dolomites greet us from afar
in red glow for our last farewell.

Experts consider the march, which is relatively young for a piece of folk music, to be of high quality. However, it is also played at popular events and in marquees, which sometimes leads to irritation due to disrespectful or politicizing heckling. The composer therefore once recommended that the march “should no longer be played on certain occasions”, for example in an intoxicated environment. Nevertheless, in 2017 it reached third place on the list drawn up by Gema of the pieces of music most played by bands and bands at the Oktoberfest in Munich.
