Demetrio Aguilera Malta , actually Raúl Demetrio Aguilera Malta , (born May 24, 1909 in Guayaquil , Guayas Province , † December 28, 1981 in Mexico City ) was a writer, painter and diplomat from Ecuador .

Life

Aguilera Malta came from a very wealthy family; he was a son of the businessman Demetrio Aguilera Sánchez and his wife Teresa Malta y Franco. A maternal ancestor was the writer Juan José de Malta y Salcedo.

Aguilera Malta received his first lessons from his mother, later various private tutors were added. He began his first literary attempts as a teenager and oriented himself, among other things, on Joaquín Gallegos Lara . He began to study law at the university in his hometown, but dropped out in 1931 without a degree.

Shortly before the start of the civil war in Spain , Aguilera Malta arrived in Madrid to attend the Universidad Central u. a. To study literary history. During the chaos of the war he acted as a correspondent for newspapers and magazines such as “La Prensa” , “El Telégrafo” , “El Grafico” and the like. a.

Under the presidency of Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola Aguilera Malta acted as charge d'affaires of the embassy of his country in Chile . In 1949 he represented his country in Brazil in the office of cultural attaché and with effect from August 1, 1979 he was ambassador to Mexico .

Due to illness ( diabetes ) he went blind and died at the age of 72 on December 28, 1981 of a stroke .
