The Democratic Party of Germany ( DPD ) was a party founded in Berlin on October 29, 1995 , which saw itself as “ representing the interests of foreigners living in Germany ”. Among other things, DPD took part in the 1998 Bundestag election . In 2002 it broke up.

Political program

The Democratic Party of Germany saw the focus of its political work in the commitment to equal rights for foreigners and in the fight against racism . In 1995 she called for an anti-discrimination law . The DPD also sought to introduce dual citizenship and the legal equality of foreigners living in Germany after ten years without being subject to naturalization. In her party program she committed herself to the social market economy and the continued existence of NATO .

Even in the run-up to the founding of the party, Cem Özdemir , among others, expressed the opinion that it would make more sense for foreigners to join the existing parties. It was also denied that the party could speak for all Turks or foreigners.

Election results

In the spring of 1996 the Democratic Party of Germany took part in the state elections in Baden-Württemberg , the state in which it was relatively well represented with 600 members (out of a total of 1500 in the entire federal territory). The total of seven applicants were male, in medium-sized professions (lawyer, translator, three craftsmen, trainee lawyer, pensioner) and originally came from Turkey .
