Den fjerde Dame (Eng. The fourth woman ) is a Danish comedy film in two acts by Eduard Schnedler-Sørensen from 1914.

action

The regiment in a small town is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Colonel von Meyerink therefore orders that the birthday should be celebrated with a big party. Four men and women are supposed to ride a quadrille , but the fourth woman is missing. He asks Lieutenant von Wolff whether his sister Leonie could not be the fourth rider to complete the quadrille. Lieutenant von Wolff agrees, especially since he wants to make a good impression on the colonel, but only learns later that his sister is unable to attend. Desperate, von Wolff writes to his good friend Felix von Stolp and tells him about his plight. Felix unceremoniously agrees to disguise himself as a woman and appear in town as the supposed sister of Wolffs. A short time later he is sitting on the train in tailor-made women's clothing.

Leonie canceled her appointment at short notice and now decides to go into town. On the train she gets to know Felix, disguised as a woman, and they both start a conversation and make friends. After an accident, the train cannot continue and passengers have to spend the night in a farm. Ladies and gentlemen sleep in different rooms, but Leonie and Felix are divided into one room. Leonie offers him half of the bed to stay overnight, but Felix first spends the night in an armchair and then fled to town. Here he is warmly received by Colonel von Meyerink. His daughter Grethe is now responsible for looking after the supposed Leonie. Felix also reacts to her friendliness with all his charm, which in turn angered Wolff, as he is engaged to Grethe. Colonel von Meyerink, in turn, falls in love with the false Leonie.

Wolff suddenly receives a telegram in which Leonie informs him that she is on her way to see him, but that she will be a little late. When looking at her photo, Felix realizes that Leonie is von Wolff's sister. He now wants to face her as a man. Leonie is picked up at the train station by Felix and her brother. Grethe, who secretly followed the two men, believes when Leonie and von Wolff hug, that her fiancé is cheating on her with this woman. Only a long, explanatory conversation can reconcile von Wolff and Grethe. There is also a happy ending for Felix and Leonie: They both get engaged.
