Denes de Holesch

Denes de Holesch (* 1910 in Besztercebánya, Hungary , today: Banská Bystrica , Slovakia ; † 1983 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian painter .

Denes de Holesch never settled down and lived in fifteen countries on five continents, including New York , Beverly Hills , Chicago , Paris , Montreal , Tokyo , Sydney and Madrid . His favorite subject was horses . In this area, critics compare his works with those of Pablo Picasso , Auguste Delacroix and Franz Marc .

In his biography “Holesch (1910–1983) Horse Paintings” the Australian art historian Andrew Mackenzie wrote: “Although he painted countless horses, each canvas is unique and an individual study that captures the personality of an animal of universal charm, a legacy of a tradition that is as old as humanity. "

In 1944 Holesch married Joyce Greer, an Australian concert pianist, in Melbourne.

Holesch was also a popular portrait painter and received commissions from many prominent figures. Until his death he had created 500 to 600 paintings.
