The Dennis A. Smyth House is a historic building in Ogden , Weber County , Utah .

The house was built around 1889 for businessman Ephraim H. Nye and designed by local architect ST Whitaker. The Irish-American hotel owner and bank manager, Dennis A. Smyth, bought the building in 1898, but did not move into it with his wife until 12 years later. Visitors to his home included William Howard Taft and the Irish politician Éamon de Valera . In 1942, three years after the death of the Smyth couple, the Dennis A. Smyth House came into the possession of the Bishop of Salt Lake City . It served as a convent for an order of sisters from 1948 to 1967 . It was then acquired by Fred J. Hunger and has served profane purposes ever since.

The Dennis A. Smyth House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 11, 1982 . It is considered one of the finest examples of the eclecticism of Victorian architecture in the entire state .
