Dennis Heinzmann (born January 22, 1991 in Ratingen ) is a German basketball player . The 2.16 meter tall Heinzmann is used as an inside player (center) and is part of the Bayer Giants Leverkusen squad from the 2nd Bundesliga ProA .

career

As a teenager, Heinzmann played in the youth division of ART Düsseldorf . In the 2009/10 season he was in the squad of TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the youth basketball league , but was not used. In the men's division, Heinzmann played in the regional league for SW Baskets Wuppertal before moving to the second division Bayer Giants Leverkusen in August 2014. There he acted under the direction of the former national player and European champion from 1993, Hans-Jürgen Gnad , who referred his protégé to Leverkusen. In his second year with Bayer (2015/16), Heinzmann and the team missed staying in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA , Leverkusen was relegated to the ProB . With 62 blocked throws (2.1 per game) in 30 appearances, he achieved the top score in this category throughout the league in the 2015/16 ProA season.

In June 2016 he accepted an offer from another ProA representative from the Rhineland, RheinStars Cologne , and joined the club by means of a two-year contract. Heinzmann had previously worked as an insurance salesman, but when he moved to Cologne he decided to go for a profit.

At the end of May 2018, Leverkusen announced Heinzmann's return. In the 2018/19 season he won the championship title in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB with the Rhinelanders. In the decisive games, however, he was absent due to a broken fibula. Heinzmann achieved an average of 9.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in the championship season in 26 missions.

National team

In the summer of 2016, Heinzmann was appointed to the squad of the German A2 national team by national coach Arne Woltmann , who had also brought him to Cologne in his role as club coach. At the end of June, he played for the DBB team for the first time in an unofficial friendly against France.
