Dennis Lota (born November 8, 1973 in Kitwe , † February 4, 2014 in Johannesburg , South Africa ) was a Zambian football player . With the Zambian national team , the striker took part in the African Championships several times .

Athletic career

Lota played after his first division debut for Zanaco FC from 1991 for Nchanga Rangers FC in the Zambian Premier League . He then played for the Kabwe Warriors and the Konkola Blades in Zambia before moving to South Africa in 1996 and playing for the Witbank Aces . After one season he moved to Europe for the Swiss club FC Sion and returned to South Africa after 14 goals this season in 21 games. Between 1998 and 2002 he played for the Orlando Pirates . In the 1999/2000 season he was the top scorer in the Premier Soccer League . This was followed by brief engagements in Tunisia at Espérance Tunis and in South Africa at Dangerous Darkies Nelspruit . From 2004 he was two seasons with the Moroka Swallows , then one season each with FC AK and AmaZulu Durban . From there he was transferred back to the second division Mpumalanga Black Aces to Witbank, where he ended his active career in 2009.

In 1995 Lota made her debut in the Zambian national team. With three tournament goals he contributed to third place at the 1996 African Cup of Nations as the second-best team-internal scorer behind Kalusha Bwalya . He was also part of the regular team in the following three final tournaments and played all games, but the team did not get beyond the group stage.

Lota later worked as an assistant coach for the Moroka Swallows. He was in the club's service when he died presumably of malaria in February 2014 .
