The Denticollinae are a global subfamily of the click beetles (Elateridae). It includes around 1500 species in 150 genera . According to Leschen, Beutel & Lawrence (2010) the subfamily includes the previously recognized subfamilies Diminae and Hypnoidinae, as well as the tribe Pleonomini, which Laurent (1966) raised to the rank of subfamily, but then Stibick (1979) was assigned to the Aplastinae. In addition, the subfamily according to Kundrata & Bocak (2011) includes the Oxynopterini, Pityobiini and Semiotini, which were formerly regarded as separate subfamilies and now as a tribe.

features

The adults are not easy to distinguish from the species of the subfamily Elaterinae , but usually have a more flattened head that is stretched further forward.

The larvae see where the Elaterinae also similar in that they a rear abgestutztes Postmentum have, however, their ninth is Tergum always scored, resulting in paired Urogomphi result.

Taxonomy and systematics

The subfamily is divided into the following ten tribes :

The Senodoniini are seen by Schimmel (1996) either as a sister group or within the Dimini. However, the larvae are very different from these and look more like those of the subfamily Lissominae due to their mandible shape, the shape of the postmentum and the tip of the abdomen and the movable thorns on the tergites and sternites of the abdomen .
