The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) is a department of the Australian government .
history
The department was founded on February 1, 2020 from the amalgamation of the following ministries:
- Department of Agriculture
- Department of the Environment and Energy (Environment portfolio)
Predecessor terms
- Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA; Ministry of the Environment, Water, Monument Protection and for the Arts )
- Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (DSEWPaC; German: Ministry for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities )
The DSEWPaC existed from September 14, 2010 to July 19, 2016 and had the task of developing national policy and legislative proposals for environmental protection and monument protection. In addition, it was concerned with meteorological observation and weather forecasting as well as safeguarding the interests of the Australian areas in the Antarctic , the Australian Antarctic Territory . It also administers the area of the Coral Sea Islands , Heard and McDonald Islands , Norfolk Island and Christmas Island .
The Ministry was responsible for the Bureau of Meteorology , the Director of National Parks , the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority , National Water Commission and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority . Agencies in this department are the Australian Antarctic Division , Supervising Scientist Division , Heritage Division , Parks Australia , Policy and Communications , Australian Wildlife , Sydney Harbor Federation Trust , Australian Land and Coasts and other authorities and agencies.
It was responsible for the Natural Heritage Trust and the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
