The Tower (Tarot)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The tower is one of the also major arcana -called trump cards of the Tarot .

presentation

Most of the depictions show lightning striking a tower and two people falling out of this tower. At Crowely you can see a snake growing out of the tower, whose fire then puts the root of the tower in ashes. At Haindl, a fireball is shown in the middle of a tower, where you can neither see the bottom nor the top.

interpretation

The tower symbolizes the prison of thought constructs, world views, etc., in which we humans weave ourselves. The lightning bolt indicates that external circumstances often shake or even destroy our worldview, especially when we commit ourselves too much to our worldview (the well-known metaphor of being trapped in an ivory tower). The two people who fall from the tower symbolize two different people: those who only rely on the spiritual and those who only rely on the material.

Due to its position between the devil (XV) and the star (XVII), the tower shows a change from arrogance to humility .
