The poor man Luther is a German feature film by Franz Peter Wirth from 1965. It was based on the radio play of the same name by the German writer Leopold Ahlsen .

action

The television play shows Martin Luther in the hour of his death. Luther, near death, appears in a dream a Catholic monk who wants to get him to revoke. Other characters in his life and past appear, some affirm the deeds of his life, but many want him to regret his actions and submit to the Pope . The film ends with Luther's death. He has not withdrawn.

The film was made after a successful radio play by Leopold Ahlsen. Produced by Bavaria Atelier for Westdeutscher Rundfunk , the film was first broadcast on German television on January 21, 1965. The film was also broadcast in Finland; there, however, under the title "Martin Luther" on September 28, 1965.

The film was also adapted as a theater play by Leopold Ahlsen in 1967.
