action
On the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, the Swiss manufacturer Oberholzer invites his siblings and their spouses to a celebration. A pike is intended as a feast, but it burns in the oven during the course of the action.
Oberholzer's wife, daughter Anna and cook Kattri prepare the party. Young Anna is very excited because she composed a duet for her father . However, your rehearsals are constantly interrupted by the arrival of guests.
The “black sheep” of the family, Oberholzer's brother Alexander, who calls himself circus director Obolski , and his wife, the beautiful circus artist Iduna, also appear unexpectedly.
The relatives are very reserved towards Alexander when he talks about circus life - only Anna is enthusiastic. The gentlemen, on the other hand, cannot take their eyes off Iduna, who raves about her father as "a wonderful clown" with an Eastern European accent .

Emergence
After Paul Burkhard had seen Emil Sautter's dialect comedy De sächzigscht Giburtstag as a teenager in 1927 at the Zurich City Theater, he was inspired to compose the song O mein Papa .
In 1938 he wrote the black pike around this song with the librettist Jürg Amstein , in this first version still as a one-act play .
In 1939, with the consent of Emil Sautter, he added the burlesque aftermath of Anna's dream . In this version, the songs were accompanied by an orchestra for the first time. The world premiere took place in the Schauspielhaus Zurich on April 1st.
In 1948 the play was performed in a new version in three acts at the Schauspielhaus Zurich.
In 1950 the comedy, which was translated into High German, premiered on March 16 under the title Das Feuerwerk in the Munich State Theater on Gärtnerplatz .
