Emil Sautter

Emil Sautter (born October 29, 1864 in Zurich ; † January 27, 1954 ) was a Swiss theater actor , theater critic and author of numerous comedies in Zurich dialect . With the play Hans Böheim, the Pauker von Niklashausen on the early modern preacher Hans Böhm , he gained the reputation of a innovator of dialect theater.

Life

As a high school student, Emil Sautter played in performances by the Zurich Dramatic Society . After graduating from high school in 1883, he studied acting in Berlin.

Between 1886 and 1892 he had engagements for one season each at the City Theater Hanau , the Princely Theater Sondershausen , the City Theater Basel , the City Theater Frankfurt an der Oder , the Princely Reussian Theater in Gera and the City Theater Zwickau . He ended the latter prematurely in order to get into his father's business.

From 1909 to 1936 he wrote under the abbreviation ES as an art critic and theater reviewer for the Zürcher Post .

Since 1919 he has been writing comedies and Schwänke in Zurich dialect for the Zurich Dramatic Society , of which he was an honorary member .
