Dramatic Association Zurich
The Zurich Dramatic Association was a theater association and an amateur theater ensemble in Zurich . It existed from 1866 to 1984.
history
On March 1, 1866, alumni of the "Didaskalia" , a society of former high school students, which was particularly active in the 1850s , founded the Zurich Musical-Dramatic Association . It consisted of a musical and a dramatic department.
In the first few years, “musical-dramatic soirées ” were part of the association's program. They took place in the old casino of the city of Zurich or in the foyer of the Aktientheater Zurich . The association gave its first public theater performance, Die Lieder des Musikanten , on March 21, 1867 at the Weisses Kreuz in Unterstrass near Zurich.
Regular venues in Zurich were the Aktientheater until the fire on New Year's Eve 1889/90, then temporarily the Catholic club house on Wolfbach , from 1896 the newly built Zurich City Theater and from 1905 to 1921 the Pfauentheater . The association also gave numerous guest appearances in various cities in Switzerland.
At the beginning of the 1870s, the Zurich Musical- Dramatic Association was renamed the Zurich Dramatic Association after differences between the departments and a sharp decline in membership . The aim of the association was to perform pieces in Zurich dialect , but high German pieces were also performed.
With the announcement of competitions the association promoted the production of dialect pieces at the beginning of the 20th century . Up until the 1930s, two or more pieces were often performed per year, from the 1940s onwards gradually fewer, until performances were only given irregularly.
Emil Hegetschweiler began, like many others, a successful acting career in this club.
Gottfried Keller and Emil Sautter were honorary members.
In 1984, at the last general assembly, the resolution was passed.
