action

A young dancer is doing a pirouette in a theater when the left headlight suddenly fails. The right one remains, but apparently it is of no use to her. So the director ( OE Hasse ) has no choice but to cancel the performance. Since an interruption that was too long would cost him dearly, he quickly brought in two specialists - a journeyman and an apprentice (Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt). He orders them to fix the headlight in five minutes. The two of them don't seem like the brightest, but they're the only people in the theater who know their way around spotlights.

Problems arise immediately during repairs: The journeyman would actually need better tools, but the apprentice cannot fetch one because he accidentally left the key in after locking the workshop. Now the journeyman sends the apprentice to get a snack. Shortly afterwards he appears with hot sausages, just as the director comes back. The journeyman quickly stuffs the sausages into his trouser pockets, but they are so hot that he throws them away and they land on the director's lap, which the audience is quite amused.

The journeyman quickly explains the situation to the director, who offers them tools from the theater. Meanwhile, the audience asks the apprentice questions, and the apprentice begins to crack jokes about the apprentice; but not for long, because it comes back shortly afterwards. The two continue the repair - but with even more difficulty. The journeyman is very careless and accidentally drops tools and boards on the audience.

Shortly afterwards, the journeyman finds out that there is no electricity "at home". He orders the apprentice to see if the lightbulb is on - the latter tries to light it, which makes the audience laugh again.

Now the journeyman decides to attach a wire. To do this, the apprentice has to climb up the gallery. The journeyman wants to toss him the wire and to do this he climbs onto a table where spectators are sitting who are drinking coffee. They complain loudly; the journeymen are not interested in this. The process has to be repeated several times, as the journeyman constantly forgets to hold the end of the wire when it is thrown down. Then a screw falls down the apprentice and lands in a woman's coat, whereupon the journeyman does not hesitate to take it out again.

After all, they can finish the repair. However, the result is not what you want: One headlight is on, but the wrong one.
