The Dercitidae are an extinct fish family from the order of the lizard fish relatives (Aulopiformes) that lived in the Upper Cretaceous.
features
The Dercitidae were medium-sized fish with a very slender, elongated shape. Their long, narrow head is striking, with both the upper and the lower jaw elongated like a beak. Both jaws were covered with small teeth. The eyes were big. The short dorsal fin stood slightly above the middle of the body or in the front half of the body. The pelvic fins were small, the caudal fin was forked or just closed off. The reduced neural rays and the lack of a longitudinal ridge on the gill cover are considered to be synapomorphies of the family .

Systematics
Louis Taverne assigned the family to the Maulstachler (Stomiiformes) in 1987 and 1991 . Today the Dercitidae of Joseph Nelson are assigned to the suborder Ichthyotringoidei within the Aulopiformes (lizardfish relatives) together with the also extinct families Ichthyotringidae and Prionolepidae . Other scientists assign all Cretaceous lizardfish relatives to the suborder Enchodontoidei, which, however, is not monophyletic .
