Derk Ringnalda

Dirk "Derk" Martinus Ringnalda (born August 9, 1924 in Taipei ; † November 3, 2004 in The Hague ) was a Dutch government employee and politician .

biography

The son of a Shell manager and honorary consul completed his education at a grammar school in The Hague and graduated in 1943. After the end of the Second World War , he did his voluntary military service in the Marine Corps between 1945 and 1948 . He then studied political science at the University of Amsterdam between 1948 and 1957 .

In February 1958 he entered the civil service and until June 1964 worked in the General Directorate for Foreign Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , where he was most recently in charge of matters relating to the European Communities . On June 15, 1964, he moved to the advisory staff (cabinet) of Prime Minister Victor Marijnen and was his advisor for defense and civil protection. He held this office until 1971 under the Prime Ministers Jo Cals , Jelle Zijlstra and Piet de Jong .

In 1966 he was one of the founders of the social liberal party Democrats 66 (D66). As the successor to Hans van Mierlo , he was briefly party chairman (Partijvoorzitter) of D66 in 1967 and ran unsuccessfully on its 1967 electoral list for a mandate as a member of the Second Chamber of the States General .

On September 13, 1971, he then moved from the office of Prime Minister to the office of Minister for General Affairs (Ministerie van Algemene Zaken), which was also held by the respective Prime Minister . There he was first acting general secretary under Prime Minister Barend Biesheuvel and then, from August 1, 1972, general secretary of the ministry. He held this office until his early retirement on July 1, 1986 under Prime Minister Joop den Uyl , Dries van Agt and Ruud Lubbers .

For his services he was awarded Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion and on April 29, 1986 Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau .
